The state of California passed a law that they though would benefit them through increasing tax revenues from online retailers. But when they passed what is called the Amazon Tax, local retailers and affiliates move out from the state causing the state more loses than gain. This was lead by Amazon and Overstock's decision not to do business for those based in the state.
