What inspired you to launch your own website?
Show customers my beautiful products, which are all made in the USA.
When did you launch your first website, and what was it?
1998, decorative fans.
How did you decide on a name for your website?
Pleated decorative fans are pleated and really neat so the name neat pleats was created.
Please give us a short summary of your website?
We make pleated decorative paper fans and decorative pleated lampshades and pleated decorative wall decor. We also have a line of lampshades that are not pleated. The un-pleated lampshades are mainly children's related.
What makes it different from other, similar offerings?
There are no other products of this nature made anywhere.
What is your eventual goal? (To sell it, keep it for income, secure a book or other mainstream media deal?)
Lifetime business that makes enough sales to keep me and my family happy.
How does your investment of time and money balance against your success?
Work hard than play later.
If you had an unlimited development budget for development, how would you change your site?
No changes. It's perfect.
If your site got really big, really quickly, would you be able to keep up with the demand?
I can make more product than I can sell.
What unexpected costs and headaches have you had to deal with?
Loss of business partner,(wife)divorce and recent death of new partner.
What has been your biggest challenge?
Overcoming divorce. Business was formed by married couple and struggles as a single person.
What method has been most successful for promoting your website?
Using other websites to sell my products.
How has running your website differed from your expectations?
Keeping the website fresh and up to date was a challenge. I had to recently scrap the whole site to get it out of the 1990's.
How long have you run the site already, and how long will you continue to keep it up if you don't enjoy big gains in traffic, income or popularity?
First site went up in 1997 and I will keep it as long as I have a company.
Are you happy you are in this business?
I love my business so much that I don't mind that there are hard times. The business is more like a child that grows so it has to be protected.
