ThePerfumeOilShop.com Interview

By Interviewer at 07/29/10 12:55
Name of your website?

ThePerfumeOilShop.com

Your name?

Magda Fox

Your Location (city, etc)

Milton, FL 32572

Please give us a short summary of your website?

ThePerfumeOilShop.com sells pure, alcohol free fragrance and body oils, designer inspired perfume oils as well as exotic and personal label fragrance oils at a fraction of the cost of expensive designer perfumes.

What inspired you to launch your own website?

I got acquainted and fell in love with perfume oils while in the Middle East. During this time I visited the Perfume Oil Factory from Cairo and purchased some fragrance oils from there. That was it for me. I was hooked on perfume oils and I probably won't ever buy another perfume which has alcohol. Wearing fragrance oils is a totally different experience from wearing even the most expensive perfume. It evokes an intimate and luxurious feeling of being adored and pampered. For my personal use, I brought back from Egypt as many oils as I possibly could. Most of them were exotic scents along with a few "designer type" fragrances. When I ran out of them, I started searching the web for a way to replenish my stock. I found and tried quite a few sites selling fragrances, but what they offered just wasn't quite what I was looking for. In the same time I found sites selling concentrated fragrance oils and the idea was born. I will mix my own fragrances. The first step was followed by offering them on ThePerfumeOilShop.com to share my love for perfumes in their purest form with as many people as I can.

When did you launch your first website, and what was it?

May 2010, www.theperfumeoilshop.com

How did you decide on a name for your website?

I was aiming for a relevant name.

What makes your website different from other, similar offerings?

After trying out more perfume oils from more sources that worth mentioning, I can honestly say that the quality of our fragrances and their presentation are above everything I have encountered by ordering quite a few online. We are not a drop-shipping website, offering the same product with a different label. By mixing them myself, I make sure that our perfume oils have the maximum allowed concentration for skin safe application. I am aware that many websites mention that their fragrance oils are "pure, uncut, without any fillers, 2, 3, or 4 time more concentrated than the competition's". Let's break it down: 1) "Pure, uncut" fragrance oils, even the cosmetic quality, have too many highly concentrated aromatic ingredients and are damaging to the skin. They are called skin safe, cosmetic grade because diluted with a carrier oil are safe for applications to the skin in the form of perfume oils, body oils, massage oils, lotions, etc. 2) This leads us to the second point "without any fillers". Obviously the carrier oil is a filler used to cut the highly concentrated, industrial-grade aromatic chemicals, which are not for straight skin application. 3) Last but not least, "more concentrated than"... compared to what? It is either concentrated and not safe for neat skin application, ergo it has to be diluted, or it is diluted as perfume oil with the highest concentration of aromatic substances safe for skin application. When it is mentioned "more concentrated than"... it should be made clear that it probably is more concentrated than a cologne oil.

What is your eventual goal? (To sell it, keep it for income, secure a book or other mainstream media deal?)

I would like to develop it into a flourishing business. Ultimately I would like to open a Perfume Oil Bar, where customers could get educated on perfume oils, sample them and chose their favorite fragrance(s).

How does your investment of time and money balance against your success?

I have just started the site, so I can not talk about success.

If you had an unlimited development budget for development, how would you change your site?

Sponsored search engine submissions, pay-per-click, paid advertisements

If your site got really big, really quickly, would you be able to keep up with the demand?

Yes.

What has been your biggest challenge?

Getting the site out for the customers to find it.

What method has been most successful for promoting your website?

Just started and I am still learning, so I couldn't say.

How long have you run the site already, and how long will you continue to keep it up if you don't enjoy big gains in traffic, income or popularity?

I have to give it a fair try, so it probably would be for a year or so. Obviously I will strive to make contious improvements to the site to make sure that I do not lose traffic due to a poor site.

What is your website address?
