Grocery Price Comparison Interview

Name of your website?

Grocery Price Comparison

Your name?

Abel Haslett

Your Location (city, etc)

Sydney

When did you start your website and why?

The site started under the name checknsave.com in 2003, and was created to automatically compare prices across supermarkets and grocery stores in New Zealand and Australia, and reveal where the best prices were for each product for that week.

Please give us a short summary of your website, business model, etc

To keep the site free for users, the site currently only makes money from pay-per-click advertising.

What has been the most difficult part of creating and running your website?

The logistics involved in collecting prices from online stores and comparing them against one another has been a huge learning curve.

What has been the easist part of operating your website?

The fact that it is so automated. Every week new prices are collected compared and added to the system, making it very simple to operate

What was your biggest mistake?

Starting out with a system that required user input of weekly specials from flyers in the mail.

Who maintains your website and why?

I maintain the website myself as I find the challenge enjoyable

Tell us how your business has benefitted from your website?

I have personally benefitted from the site by knowing exactly where to shop for products that our family requires on a weekly basis.

What are your views on Search Engines? Have they helped or hindered your website?

Search engines are the way this site makes money. Without a steady stream of visitors from search engines each day, we would not receive enough money from pay-per-click advertising to keep the site running

What method has been most successful for promoting your website?

Search Engine Optimization

What method has been least successful for promoting your website?

Word of mouth

What is your website address?
