About six months ago I moved into a new neighborhood. I started going to the closest supermarket. I realized recently that I've been going to that supermarket less and less.It just isn't comfortable. Checkout isles too narrow. Often no carts or baskets by the entrance. Often items that don't scan at the register and it takes them weeks to resolve the issue.
A few days ago I went and it wasn't too crowded and I got a basket without any trouble. As I walked to the checkout lanes a lady removed the "aisle closed" sign and I approached. "This lane is closed!" barked a different lady.
The next shortest line had an old man waiting for something. I stood behind him. After a while he left going back into the store. This check out girl barked that the line was for pregnant women.
Now, I agree that the aisle gives "priority" for pregnant women. There hadn't been a problem for me to wait while the old man was in front of me, but suddenly at the moment I was the only one in line (as there was no women pregnant or not behind me) the line became unavailable for me.
It was clear that this store was not interested in my business and I dropped my full basket on the floor in the line and bolted out the door.
The sad fact is that they are probably clueless as to why I was an unhappy customer and they probably don't care. I suspect the money is overwhelming good when they are busy and they simply can't visualize that treating customers poorly may change that!
I don't suppose it is such a strange concept.. customer service slogans (anti)
