I went to Champs the other day, which is a staple place for me to buy athletic stuff. My husband plays basketball and has a difficult time finding a pair of basketball shoes that accomodate him.It seems every time he finds a shoe that he really likes and works well, the manufacturer discontinues it! This is the third time we have gone through this. Last season, we found the Nike 180 shoe which gives him a perfect balance of support especially around the ankle, since he wears double ankle braces, and springiness so that every time his feet hit the floor he has some cushion for his joints.
I was in the store a few weeks ago, and they had them on the shelf. I thought, "Good, they are going to keep them around a while." Well, a week later, I went in to get him a pair, since the winter season is about over, which means they will be playing outside. The old pair gets to play outside, and I get a new pair for the next indoor season. Lo and behold, I walk in the store and they are gone!
I spoke with the manager, who is always very helpful and remembers the reasoning for buying this shoe. There wasn't a single darn shoe on the rack that he could recommend for my husband to wear that offered the support and cushion that this shoe had done. That stinks!
Well, he finally did some searching and found ONE single pair left in the warehouse in his size, although in a different color, and I ordered those to be shipped to me.
I just don't understand why when they MAKE a great shoe, they stop making the GREAT shoe and substitute it with something that may look cooler but not be very useful for the purposes a basketball shoe is intended. I can appreciate that the gansta's want to look kewl, but the basketball players need great shoes too!
